Central to our mission is the ethos of sharing knowledge freely and openly. We believe that accessibility is key to fostering collaboration and innovation in the field of elephant conservation. Through our initiatives, we aim to democratize access to information, empowering individuals and organizations to contribute meaningfully to the protection and well-being of elephant populations globally. We are incredibly grateful to all the scientists, organisations and individuals who have been open to contribute to the Elephant Resource Center Database. The combined knowledge of everyone working with, researching and conserving elephants is endlessly valuable and we are proud to serve as a platform to share this knowledge to contribute to better conservation efforts of elephants.

Together, let us work towards a future where humans and elephants coexist harmoniously, ensuring the survival of these iconic species for generations to come.

The Elephant Resource Center (ERC) is a collaborative initiative between Elephants Alive and Transfrontier Africa, two organisations that have worked side by side for over 15 years to protect elephants and other iconic species across southern Africa.
Elephants Alive brings over two decades of expertise in elephant research, movement ecology, and human–elephant coexistence. With a strong focus on scientific monitoring and evidence-based management, the organisation works to secure a future where people and elephants can thrive together.
Transfrontier Africa is best known as the founding organisation of the Black Mambas, the world’s first all-female anti-poaching unit. Through its pioneering fieldwork, community engagement, and conservation management, Transfrontier Africa has become a leader in integrated wildlife protection and habitat security.
Together, these organisations bring extensive experience in elephant research, monitoring, and management, as well as community-based conservation and field protection. Through this partnership, the ERC serves as a unified platform that bridges science and practice. Connecting researchers, conservationists, and the public to share knowledge, resources, and solutions for the future of both African and Asian elephants.
